Hi, I’m Olivia and I’m currently on work experience with the features team at More!
I have just two days left of my two week placement and, as is the case with most of the workies, I don’t want to leave! I have learnt so much in such a short time and have been given a fantastic insight into the industry. I’ve met lots of different people, been to exciting places and have experienced life as a real journalist as opposed to being just ‘a student studying journalism’.
I’ve got involved with everything from features meetings with the More! team to helping out on photo shoots. One of the most recent meant I was able to work with FHM and a popular female celebrity for one of their top secret, upcoming cover shoots. I also had the chance to attend a press day for the opening of the new Go Ape! course at Trent Park in London. It is one of the highest courses and even has a zip wire that you can skateboard along! Extremely cool but perhaps not for the faint hearted!
Each day is different to the last and even the regular jobs, such as doing vox pops for the website and transcribing interviews are new and exciting. Vox pops always bring up interesting topics and I recently transcribed an interview with Keith Lemon which had me in stitches!
In between jobs there are plenty of things you can be getting on with. It’s always nice to make some tea and coffee for the rest of the team who might be busy and it’s also useful to get clued up with the day’s headlines to see if they can act as inspiration for future features. Doing this meant I was not only able to think of feature ideas, but also interesting topics for the social network debate.
Working for a successful and well established magazine like More! may seem daunting but after spending the last two weeks here I can safely say it is exactly the opposite. The team are really friendly, but most of all approachable. If you’re positive, cheerful and show that you are willing to get stuck in you’ll have a great experience and hopefully come away from it learning just as much as I have!
As a fashion intern, working at more! isn’t just limited to the pages within the magazine…
Oh no! Us multi-tasking interns get to work on the fabulous more! magazine website too!
Along with the entire fashion team, we work together to bring you the latest in upto date fashion news online as well as within the mag.
You can find weekly video’s from the fashion team online where we’re talking everything from shoes to sports wear and you can also pick up some ah-mazing styling tips from more!’s ‘What We’re Wearing’ feature which shows our most inspiring outfit of the week. As well as much much more!
What are you waiting for? Check out this weeks posts online now..

I can’t think of many jobs where the words, ‘By the way girls, a naked man might be popping into our office later to bring us lots of cake’ do not come as a surprise…

Here at more! however, this kind of eye candy is a regular occurrence. One of the many perks of working here is that we’re never lacking in attractive male visitors - whether it’s chiselled models in beanies coming in for castings, promo men flaunting their goods in tiny Y-fronts or Edward Cullen lookalikes, us lucky ladies definitely get our fair share of perving opportunities!

It’s a tough life…

Us more! girls love lists (so much so that some of us are going to London’s first ever list-making night…you know you want to) so I thought I’d share my list of what this week’s hottest mag has taught me.
5 top fashion lessons learned at more! this week:
1. Bunny herding is not uncommon
2. That everyone should be glistening in metallic and high voltage neons this spring
3. Location van toilets are difficult things…
4. Where the U-spot is (look it up)
5. more! is the most exciting and varied place i’ve ever worked

Interested in becoming a fashion intern? Well, no two weeks are the same here on the fashion desk which help keep it fresh and exciting! Here is a snapshot of my to-do list this week….
- Go on appointments and pull clothes for the upcoming shoot (yes, this is like shopping, and yes I LOVE it!)
- Chase samples from the PR companies (and lust over EVERYTHING that comes in)
- Find a bunny rabbit for the shoot (yes, really!)
- Chase model packages
- Organise the main fashion shoot
- and finally assist the stylist with anything he / she needs
Phew…. and breathe! Now the shoot is over we’re ready to do it all over again for next weeks shoot.
Look out for the final pictures for this shoot in our 10th April issue. It’s going to be a good ‘un!
